20th CARIBBEAN AMATEUR JUNIOR GOLF
CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 20th
Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships, organised
by the Caribbean Golf Association and hosted this year by the OECS Golf Association, took place at Cedar Valley Golf Club, Antigua,
on 10th-12th July, 2007. Teams from eight countries
contested the Hank James Trophy and 85 participants entered the individual
competitions. There had been very little rain in Antigua
this year leaving the golf course very dry and hard, almost resembling
links golf at the hot of summer. The competitors were unused to the
difficult conditions but ultimately adapted to post some very good scores
on a very tight, windy and difficult course. Trinidad & Tobago
demonstrated their strength in depth and won the Hank James Trophy with
148.5 points. Puerto Rico finished second with 125.5 points, with the
Dominican Republic
finishing third with 123.5 points. As always, the individual championships
were hotly contested, particularly the Boys 16-17 year bracket where
Wilson Rancier from the Dominican Republic shot 69 on the last day to
catch Ben Martin of Trinidad & Tobago from 6 strokes back, resulting
in joint winners. See all the results below. Thanks are due to the many
sponsors of the Championships, in particular, the Royal & Ancient
Golf Club of St. Andrews, Scotland and America Airlines.
Special thanks are also due to the
many volunteers from the OECS Golf Association
who made the Championships go so smoothly.
